System reliability of Distribution networks has increasingly gained centre-stage with Utilities, Regulators and other Public bodies. The two commonly used measures on System reliability are System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI). The real-time monitoring and information systems implemented as part of Smart Grid are expected to boost the System reliability by reducing interruptions and ensure accurate measurement and reporting of System interruptions.
